Job Description
A Pipe Welder welds and fabricates pipework for industrial, utility, or shipbuilding projects, working with carbon steel, stainless steel, or other alloys depending on the application.
You read isometric drawings and piping specifications to understand pipe runs, fit-up requirements, and weld types, then fit and tack pipe sections before completing full welds using TIG, MIG/MAG, or stick welding as required. You carry out visual inspection of completed welds and prepare joints for non-destructive testing where specified, working to tight tolerances on alignment and weld quality.
A recognised pipe welding qualification is required, often including certification to a relevant pressure piping standard, along with VCA certification. Experience fitting and welding pipe in confined spaces or at height is an advantage on many projects.
